Following criticism from some leaders of the state of affairs in Congress in the wake of the party’s poor performance in the Bihar elections and the Assembly by-elections, senior leader Salman Khurshid said on Sunday that there was no leadership crisis in the party and full support for Sonia Gandhi and Rahul it was “obvious to anyone who is not blind.”

Stating that there were enough forums in Congress to air views, Khurshid told PTI: “The leaders listen to me, they give me a chance, they (those who criticize in the media) have a chance, where does this come from that the leadership is not listening. “

Recently veteran of Congress Kapil Sibal said The Indian Express that people no longer he saw the party as an “effective alternative” and said the leadership was not broaching the issue. Congress, he said, knows the problems it faces and the answers, but was unwilling to acknowledge them. MPs Vivek Tankha and Karti Chidambaram reiterated what Sibal said.

When asked about the statements by Sibal and other leaders, Khurshid asked why someone has to tell the world that “we have to do this.”

“Analysis is done all the time, there is no discussion about analysis. It will be done. The leadership, of which all these people are a part, will properly analyze what could have gone wrong, how we could have improved, and that will happen in the normal course, we do not need to talk about it in public, “he said. Khurshid, permanent guest of the Congressional Working Committee (CWC).

When asked about some leaders calling for a full-time president, he said they should come forward and talk about it within the party. “See our leader and tell him it doesn’t look good without a tag, the leader will take a call,” Khurshid said.

“No one has left, they are all here. The only insistence is on a label, why do you insist on a label? There is no president in the Bahujan Samaj Party, there is no president in the left parties, only general secretaries… All parties cannot follow the same model, ”Khurshid told PTI.

Sonia Gandhi recently established three committees comprised of top party leaders to help her formulate the party’s position on economic issues, foreign affairs, and national security. Khurshid has been appointed as the coordinator of the panel on foreign affairs.

When asked if everyone in Congress strongly supported Rahul Gandhi as their leader, Khurshid said: “I think it is evident to anyone who is not blind that the people fully support Congress President Sonia ji and Rahul Gandhi, who is our former president. They all support them. “

“Those who question (the leadership), if they claim to be Democrats, should have some courtesy to include us who do not question (the leadership) and within the party we can decide whether there are more or we are more. Our whole objection is that this happens outside the party, “he also said.

The former foreign minister further insisted that forums were available in the party where leaders were free to voice their concerns. “How (those who say there is no forum to express opinions) became parliamentarians? All those who are speaking, are they not MPs? That must have been done somewhere in the party, not on the streets, ”he said.

He also stated that Congress must be prepared for a long fight and try to persuade the voter rather than resort to shortcuts. Why should you give up your ideology? If your ideology is not persuading the voter to join you, you should close the store or wait. We persuade the voter, it will take time, ”he said.

“Why are we so worried that we have lost power and therefore must return to power in weeks or months or years, etc. If it doesn’t happen for a while, will we keep working? Politics is about passion for a cause, politics is not about a prequalification for power. We must pursue our cause and we will follow it, ”Khurshid said.
