The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA) issued an official statement on Saturday conveying India’s strong concern over the terrorist attack that took place in Nagrota, Jammu and Kashmir on November 19.
Initial reports indicate that the attackers were members of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), a terrorist organization banned by the United Nations and several countries. The Government of India expressed serious concern over the continued terrorist attacks by JeM against India, ”it said in the statement.
The MEA also expressed concern about any disruption to the safe and peaceful elections that the government intends to hold in Jammu and Kashmir.
“JeM has been part of several attacks in India in the past, including the Pulwama attack in February 2019. The huge cache of weapons, ammunition and explosive material indicates detailed planning of a major attack to destabilize peace and security. in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, in particular, to derail the current democratic exercise of conducting the local elections of the District Development Council (DDC), ”the ministry added.
Four JeM terrorists were shot dead in a three-hour shooting, which began early Thursday at the Ban toll plaza on the road near the town of Nagrota in the Jammu district. Two policemen from the Special Operations Group (SOG) were injured in the exchange of gunfire. The shooting began after security forces successfully intercepted a truck carrying the terrorists.
Officials suspect that the killed terrorists were planning “something big” ahead of the DDC elections, scheduled to take place from November 28 to December 22.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet on Friday congratulated Indian troops for neutralizing the terrorists. He said the attackers belonged to the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed.
“The neutralization of 4 terrorists belonging to the Pakistan-based terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed and the presence of a large cache of weapons and explosives with them indicates that their efforts to wreak great havoc and destruction have once again been thwarted. “he said in his tweet.
In light of the Nagrota incident, the MEA summoned the Charge d’Affaires of the High Commissioner of Pakistan and it became imperative that Pakistan “desist from its policy of supporting terrorists and terrorist groups”
