Continuing its attack on the entertainment industry, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested the television industry’s comedy queen, Bharti Singh, on Saturday.
In one raid, the NCB raided the residence of Bharti and her husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa. Detectives seized 86.5 g of marijuana from his residence.
“Both Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa have accepted that they were using marijuana,” said Sameer Wankhede, NCB Mumbai unit area director.
The couple were summoned to the Exchange Building, the Mumbai zonal office of the NCB.
While Bharti Singh has been arrested, her husband Haarsh is being examined.
The couple were taken in separate vehicles to the NCB office.
When Bharti entered the NCB office, he said: “… nothing … they called us for questioning.”
In the early morning, NCB crews landed at their facilities in the Andheri, Lokhandwala Complex and Versova areas and conducted search operations.
Bharti (36) and Haarsh (33) are among the leading couple in the Indian television industry and are currently hosts Best dance in Indiar on Sony Entertainment Television.
Bharti has been a part of numerous comedy shows and is now part of The Kapil Sharma Show Season 2 Y Funhit me jaari.
Haarsh is a writer and producer and has written the shows. Comedy Circus Ke Tansen, Bachao comedy nights Y Live comedy nights. He also wrote dialogue for the film. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the lyrics of the movie’s title song Malang. It has also created, produced and hosted Khatra khatra khatra Y Quarantine Hum Tum Aur.
The questioning of the couple by the NCB is part of the investigation to unravel the link between the entertainment industry and the drug cartel.
Celebrities previously questioned include Arjun Rampal, Deepika Padukone, Rakul Preet Singh, Shraddha Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan.
The NCB is conducting two investigations simultaneously: one on the drugs angle to Sushant Singh Rajput and the other on the broader nexus between the drug cartel and Bollywood.
About twenty people, including Sushant’s roommate Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik, were arrested. Subsequently, the Bombay High Court granted Rhea a conditional bond.
