The development comes a day after the central government sent high-level teams to the districts of Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Manipur, which were reporting large numbers of COVID-19 cases. Madhya Pradesh: The Madhya Pradesh government decided on Friday to impose a night curfew in five cities including Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Ratlam and Vidisha starting on Saturday. When issuing an order, the state government said that the curfew will be in effect from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to review the COVID-19 situation after an outbreak of infection cases, especially in Indore and Bhopal.

During the meeting, Chouhan dismissed reports that his government was planning to re-impose the lockdown to control the coronavirus outbreak.

During the review meeting, Chouhan said that the night curfew can be implemented and small containment areas will be created in cities that witness an increase in infection cases, although essential services will not be affected in such circumstances.

At this time, Class I through VIII schools will remain closed until further orders, while Class IX through XII students and colleges may attend under current directives.

Gujarat: The Gujarat government on Friday took strict measures and decided to impose a night curfew in the cities of Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot from Saturday.

The announcement came as a 57-hour weekend curfew went into effect starting at 9 p.m. in the city of Ahmedabad, ending at 6 a.m. on November 23. The government has already announced a night curfew in Ahmedabad from 23 November.

In issuing the order, Senior Deputy Minister Nitin Patel announced a curfew between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. in the cities of Surat, Rajkot and Vadodara starting on Saturday.

In the city of Ahmedabad alone, up to 305 cases of coronavirus infection were reported in the last 24 hours on Friday. It was followed by 205 new cases in the city of Surat, 116 in Vadodara and 83 in the city of Rajkot.

Across the state, 1,420 new cases were reported Friday. By Thursday, Gujarat had added 1,340 cases, while on November 12 it had reported 1,120 cases.

Rajasthan: Taking preventive measures, the Rajasthan government announced on Friday that the restrictions will be re-imposed under Section 144 from Saturday.

In announcing the order, the Ashok Gehlot government said that all district magistrates have been empowered to reinstate bans under Section 144 in all districts of Rajasthan. The order further stated that the District Magistrate can enforce Section 144 for a longer period only after consulting the state government.

Rajasthan recorded 14 more deaths from the new coronavirus on Friday, bringing the death toll from COVID-19 in the state to 2,130. The state also reported 2,762 new cases. The total number of people infected by COVID-19 is now 2,37,699 in Rajasthan and of these, 20,923 are in treatment.

PM Modi reviews the vaccination strategy: At this critical juncture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting on Friday to review India’s vaccination strategy where issues such as prioritizing population groups and the technological platform to implement the coronavirus vaccine were discussed.
