NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Labor notified draft rules under the Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code (OSHWC), 2020, inviting interested parties to submit objections and suggestions within 45 days.
Key provisions of the code include limiting the maximum number of working hours per day to 12 hours, with a maximum of 4 hours overtime, not to exceed 48 hours per week. The code also says that even 15 minutes of overtime over and above the mandatory 8 hours of work per day will be counted as 30 minute overtime. In the previous provision, less than 30 minutes of overtime did not allow a worker to be eligible to receive overtime wages.
Labor Minister Santosh Gangwar said the draft rules provide for the implementation of the OSHWC Code provisions related to the safety, health and working conditions of dock workers, construction workers and other workers. construction workers, mining workers, interstate migrant workers, contract workers, working journalists, audiovisual workers and sales promotion employees. Key provisions include mandatory letters of appointment for each category of employee. It requires an annual medical check-up of each worker who has reached 45 years of age, which will be provided by the employer.
