Bihar’s corrupt minister Mewalal Chaudhary resigns hours after taking office

Patna: Bihar Education Minister Mewalal Chaudhary resigned on Thursday after being accused of corruption.

Mewalal Chaudhary has been facing criticism from opposition parties, especially the RJD, since he was sworn in as cabinet minister alongside Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on November 16. Speaking on the issue of his resignation, Mr. Chaudhary said: “The allegations can only be proven after a charge sheet is filed or the court approves an order and, in my case, nothing happened. The matter is still under investigation. “

He also criticized Tejashwi Yadav for raising questions against him and said that he “has no right to point the finger at me as he himself faces a number of corruption charges.”

In a series of previous tweets, Tejashwi Yadav had blamed Bihar’s chief minister Nitish Kumar for appointing ministers who have criminal and corruption cases pending against them.

A case was brought against Mewalal Chaudhary in 2017 on the basis of reports that highlighted irregularities in the appointment of assistant professors and young scientists during his tenure as Vice Chancellor of Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour in Bhagalpur district.

Reports suggest that the case is still pending against him in the court of the additional district and session judge, I Bhagalpur, and the surveillance department is investigating the matter.

After an FIR was presented against him, the JD (U) suspended him for a brief period, however, he was named the party’s candidate from the seat of the Tarapur assembly during the state elections this year.

While attacking Bihar CM Nitish Kumar after Mr. Chaudhary’s resignation on Thursday, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said in a tweet that “we have a mandate to warn you of your corrupt policies, intentions and rules. A resignation is not enough. We will continue to monitor many issues of public interest, such as the promise of 19 lakh work, contract workers and the issue of equal work and equal pay. ”

Chaudhary had to resign from his post within hours of resuming office on Thursday after the intervention of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

“Mewalal Chaudhary’s resignation shows that Nitish Kumar does not compromise on the issue of corruption. But those who were raising questions about Nitish Kumar’s policies will ask Tejashwi Yadav to resign because he also faces serious corruption charges, ”said Hindustani Awam Morcha spokesperson Danish Rizwan.
