Apple iPhone 12 series phones reportedly face screen dimming and flickering issues

It’s been a few weeks since the launch of the iPhone 12 series of phones, and since their launch, new iPhones have been the talk of the town. The new iPhones have been quite popular with shoppers and many have acquired them during the holiday sales.

But even as the new iPhones continue to grow in popularity, some users report problems with the phone screen. These issues include screen flickering and yellow / green tint. While Apple hasn’t officially said anything about them, Apple recognized them internally in an internal document obtained by MacRummors.

The document in question was allegedly released to Apple’s authorized service providers by the company confirming that Apple is aware of the display issues and is conducting its own investigation into the matter.

The tech giant has reportedly advised its technicians at authorized service centers not to repair affected iPhones for the time being and instead ask owners to keep their version of iOS up to date, as the company trusts to implement a software solution for the display problem, rather than to fix it by replacing the hardware.

Interestingly, the iPhone 11 series had also faced a similar problem at launch. However, the company at the time had managed to fix it by issuing an iOS 13.6.1 software update. It seems that Apple has a similar software solution again to fix the problem.

The issue was reportedly raised shortly after the new iPhones were released in Apple’s support communities. As of now, the issue is reported to affect iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Reports suggest that the issue doesn’t affect iPhones at all times, but it appears to affect iPhones when the screen brightness is set to around 90% or less. Reports suggest that many users have experienced the issue on iOS 14.1, iOS 14.2 and the display issues are not always persistent as they disappear after a short time for some users.

But regardless of the problems, the iPhone 12 series of phones seems to show beasts. In fact, it was only yesterday that DisplayMate gave the iPhone 12 Pro Max its highest screen performance rating of A +. It also awarded it the “Best Smartphone Display” award after the iPhone 12 Pro Max managed to reach a milestone by breaking 11 records or equaling an existing one.

Speaking of the panel on the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the phone comes with a 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR display offering a resolution of 2778×1284 pixels and a maximum brightness of 1200 nits with a pixel density of 458ppi. However, it supports 60Hz refresh rate, rather than 90Hz or 120Hz as many of its competitors do.
