13-year-old migrant worker’s son among the dead; Joined the factory because they closed the school
According to initial reports, one of the six people who have lost their lives is a thirteen-year-old boy who has just started working in the factory.
The boy, Ajijul Rahman, a Class 7 student, had started working after his school closed due to the coronavirus.
Ajijul’s father, a day laborer working in Mumbai when the closure was announced, was stuck in the city without work for two months.
“It was during that time that he told me he would start working. He said his father was out of work and moving from city to city after closing. If he works, he could help the family.” Ajijul’s mother said.
“His father earned between Rs 200-250 a day. Without work for almost four months, there was an acute shortage in the family. There are five siblings, the father was the only member who worked. As he did not go to school, he said. He will work. at the factory, ”said his uncle.
Ajijul’s body was taken to the Malda School of Medicine where his family approached to identify him.
“His body was charred beyond repair. We couldn’t recognize him,” her mother howled as she spoke to The fifth.
The West Bengal government has offered 2 lakhs of rupees to the families of the deceased and 50,000 rupees for the treatment of the injured.
