Ahead of G20 Summit, Saudi Arabia Acts on India’s Concerns on the Issue on the Wrong Map India News

New Delhi: Ahead of the G20 summit, Saudi Arabia is acting on India’s concerns about the issue on the wrong map, sources confirming the development said on Friday. The sources added that Saudi Arabia is also likely to withdraw the bill soon.

In October, India had conveyed its serious concern to Saudi Arabia over the “serious misrepresentation” of its outer territorial limits in a banknote issued and had asked it to take “urgent corrective action,” the Foreign Ministry (MEA) said.

The global map printed in the new 20 Riyal coin, released to mark the G20 group’s presidency of Saudi Arabia, does not feature Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh as part of India.

India had conveyed its great concern through the Saudi Arabian Ambassador in New Delhi, as well as the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Riyadh. The Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority had issued the new note on October 24.

Saudi Arabia is acting on India’s concerns, sources confirming the development said. It said, “Saudi Arabia is taking action.” The action does not include the circulation of the note and its withdrawal as well.

The first virtual summit of the G20 will take place from November 21 to 22. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will represent India at the 2020 meeting hosted by Saudi Arabia. The summit is held largely due to the pandemic.

India had asked Saudi Arabia to take “corrective action” on the new currency note. MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastava had stated that all the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of the country.

“We have seen the banknote referred to by you that gives an incorrect description of the external territorial limits of India. The banknote was issued by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority on October 24 to mark the occasion of the Saudi presidency of the G20,” he said. Srivastava during a weekly press conference.

“We have conveyed our serious concern to Saudi Arabia, both through its ambassador in New Delhi and in Riyadh, for this serious misrepresentation of India’s external territorial borders on an official and legal Saudi Arabian banknote and we ask the party Saudi Arabia to take urgent corrective measures in this regard, “he had said.
