The government reserves 5 MBBS seats under the central pool for the children of the Covid-19 warriors


NEW DELHI: The government has decided to reserve five MBBS seats under the core group for the wards of Covid-19 warriors for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said the move aims to dignify and honor the noble contribution made by Covid-19 warriors who lost their lives due to infection or died accidentally due to Covid-19 related duty. .

The Union Ministry of Health has introduced a new category, ‘Wards of Covid Warriors’, in the guidelines for the selection and nomination of candidates for the MBBS core group seats.

The selection will be made by the Medical Council Committee (MCC) through the online application based on the rank obtained in the NEET-2020 made by the National Testing Agency.

Vardhan said: “This will honor the solemn sacrifice of all Covid warriors who served with selfless dedication for the cause of duty and humanity.”

Noting that the definition of ‘Covid warrior’ has been established by the government in announcing the 50 lakh rupee insurance package for them, the minister said: ‘Covid warriors are all public healthcare providers, including workers from community health, who can in direct contact and care of patients with Covid-19 and who may be at risk of being affected by this. ”

“Private hospital staff and retirees / volunteers / local urban organizations / contracted / daily salary / ad-hoc / subcontracted staff requested by states / central hospitals / autonomous hospitals of central / states / UT, AIIMS and Institutes of National Importance (INI) / All central ministries hospitals drafted for Covid-19 related responsibilities are included, “he added.

The State and Union Territory (UT) government will certify eligibility for this category.
