PUBG Mobile is ready to return to the country, with a completely new avatar. The new version of PUBG Mobile India, which is expected to bring a number of changes to the game to get official authorization to operate again, is scheduled to be operational very soon. Now, recent reports indicate that despite its ban and months-long absence from Indian cyberspace, PUBG Mobile may continue to enjoy similar popularity in the country, even with the upcoming Indian combat game FAU-G also due out soon.
Indicative reports courtesy of the game sharing and mobile gaming community, TapTap. The site, which accepts pre-registrations for upcoming mobile games to be released soon, apparently already registered more than 200,000 pre-registrations for PUBG Mobile India, prior to its launch on the Android and iOS platforms. By comparison, FAU-G, the Vishal Gondal-backed nCore-designed Indian combat game, is reported to have seen around 60,000 records so far. The numbers for the latter come from unconfirmed sources, and News18 was unable to confirm the pre-registration figures for PUBG Mobile India or FAU-G at the time of writing. TapTap’s online portal also appears to be unavailable at the time of posting the story.
However, considering the indicative numbers, it is clear that PUBG Mobile India seems poised to enjoy a multiple advantage in terms of popularity among gamers in the country. While the Indian government has yet to issue an official authorization following the ban of PUBG Mobile in the country citing its ties to Chinese servers, PUBG Corp’s official announcement about PUBG Mobile India means that the game will return to Indian stores, more sooner rather than later.
PUBG Mobile is considered a pioneering game that opened up the Indian gaming ecosystem and helped establish gaming as a serious industry with a lot of interest from investors. While gamers and gaming industry stakeholders argued that India’s gaming ecosystem will continue to progress with or without PUBG Mobile, the ban on the game put a damper on the overall spirit of gamers in the country. Moving forward, it will be interesting to see if TapTap’s pre-registration numbers for PUBG Mobile India and FAU-G can truly reflect the popularity of the games on the ground.
