Children of people who have been fighting on the forefront to control the COVID-19 pandemic will receive reservations for admission to undergraduate medical courses, including MBBS and BDS, in the 2020-21 session. The Union Health Minister Harsh Varshan approved the new category reservations.

“It will honor the solemn sacrifice of all COVID warriors who served selflessly,” the Health Minister was quoted as saying by the ANI news agency. While the government has yet to specify the definition of COVID warriors, it will be comprised of doctors, cleaners, police, etc. Several private institutes have also offered discounts for the children of COVID warriors this year.

However, it has not yet shared the number of seats that will be reserved for these children.

As previously reported on indianexpress.com, the University of Chandigarh offers a 10 percent fee or reservation for those children along with an additional 10 percent refund. LPU, Phagawara also offers free education for children of those affected by the coronavirus and frontline workers.

Meanwhile, the government has also approved reserve for spouses and children of terrorist victims for MBBS and BDS admissions this year. Children of those people who are exposed to substantive risks due to their assignment mainly related to the fight against acts of terrorism, children of people who have entered the ‘target list’ of terrorist organizations, and children of those families who have migrated from Kashmir due to the current situation and they have lost their livelihood, including their business or the use of their properties, they are also eligible for the core pool of MBBS and BDS positions, as previously reported by PTI.
