New Delhi:
Karnataka’s Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said on Wednesday that his government will not allow the “forced bandh” called by some pro-Kannada groups on December 5 against his decision to establish the Maratha Development Board.
Yediyurappa, who arrived in the national capital this afternoon to discuss the expansion of his cabinet with the BJP’s top leadership, warned of action if the bandh is called in.
“We have created the board for the welfare of the Maratha communities living in the state. The Marathas are also Hindu followers,” the prime minister told reporters.
“We will take strict measures if forced bandh is called in,” he said.
The government’s decision to establish the Maratha Development Board comes before the announcement of by-elections to the Belagavi Lok Sabha constituencies, as well as the Basavakalyan and Maski constituencies, which have a Marathi-speaking population. considerable.
Yediyurappa also lashed out at Maharashtra’s Chief Deputy Minister Ajit Pawar for “unnecessarily fueling” the border dispute between the two states.
He said the decision of the Mahajan Commission is final.
Pawar had said Tuesday that the comprehensive growth of Maharashtra and
bringing Belgaum (Belagavi), Karwar and Nipani into the state were the dreams of Shiv Sena’s founder, Bal Thackeray.
“Let us resolve to fulfill Balasaheb’s dream,” he had said.
Karnataka and Maharashtra have been at odds for decades over the border issue.
Maharashtra claims the Belagavi border district for linguistic reasons.
Karnataka has built Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, modeled after Vidhana Soudha, the state legislature building in Bengaluru, in Belagavi to affirm its claim that the district is an integral part of the state.
The session of the legislative assembly is held in Suvarna Vidhana Soudha once a year.
