Haryana Minister Anil Vij Volunteers as First Volunteer for Covaxin Phase 3 Trial

The third phase of clinical trials of the coronavirus vaccine, Covaxin, will begin in Haryana on November 20. Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij has volunteered as the first volunteer to get vaccinated. “The third phase trial of Covaxin, a Bhart Biotech coronavirus vaccine product, will begin in Haryana on November 20. I volunteered as the first volunteer to be vaccinated,” Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij tweeted.

Bharat Biotech announced on Monday the start of phase 3 trials of the Covid-19 Covaxin vaccine. The Phase 3 trials will involve 26,000 volunteers across India and will be carried out in partnership with ICMR. It is the largest clinical trial conducted for a coronavirus vaccine in India.

This is India’s first phase 3 efficacy study for a Covid-19 vaccine and the largest phase 3 efficacy trial ever conducted in India.

The trial volunteers will receive two intramuscular injections approximately 28 days apart. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive Covaxin or placebo. The trial is double-blind, so researchers, participants, and the company won’t know who is assigned to which group.
