Elgaar Parishad case, Bombay HC, Varavara Rao, Mumbai news, Indian Express newsVaravara Rao was transferred to Nanavati Hospital on July 19 for neurological and urological treatment.

The Bombay High Court, which is hearing a petition filed by the wife of Telugu poet Varavara Rao seeking to transfer him to a hospital from Taloja jail, ordered the state government on Tuesday to provide details about his medical examination.

Rao’s attorney, lead attorney Indira Jaisingh, informed the court that the authorities had sent a one-page report via WhatsApp hours before the teleconsultation hearing conducted by the doctors.

“This report should be read in conjunction with the previous report from the Nanavati Hospital, where he was admitted. He does not mention his (Rao’s) comorbidities and underwent an examination of just 15 minutes through a teleconsultation. There is no report from a neurologist although he suffers from dementia or a urologist. This is nothing but delay tactics and the report is a complete eye wash, ”Jaisingh presented to the division bench of Judges SS Shinde and Madhav Jamdar.

Last week, a holiday bank, while listening to a plea made by P Hemlatha, Rao’s wife, had ordered the authorities at Taloja Jail and NIA to allow your medical examination, preferably by doctors from the Nanavati Hospital who had treated him previously.

The statement has sparked complaints that he is not being provided with adequate medical care in prison and seeks to transfer him to Nanavati Hospital, where he underwent treatment after testing positive for Covid-19.

The HC postponed the hearing until Wednesday due to technical difficulties in the virtual hearing. Jaisingh will appear before the HC for a physical hearing on Wednesday. A request for medical bail has also been filed on Rao’s behalf.
