Bangalore: Congress leader and ex
Bangalore Mayor Sampath raj has been arrested in connection with Dj halli Y KG Halli case of violence, Joint Commissioner of the Central Branch of Crime Sandeep Patil said Monday.

In particular, Raj had disappeared on October 31 after authorities in a
Bangalore hospital, where he was admitted to receive treatment for COVID-19, reportedly released him without informing the police.

Sampath Raj is a defendant in the case related to the recent mob violence in the city.

Previously, his attorney had alleged political vendetta behind the charge sheet filed against him in the
Bangalore case of violence. His attorney had said that the charge sheet had no material to prove any of the charges invoked in the matter.

The CCB had last week presented a preliminary charge sheet for the August 11 violence, which took place in
Bangalore, naming congressional corporations AR Zakir and Sampath Raj as defendants.

Violence had broken out in parts of
Bangalore on August 11 for an alleged “derogatory” post on social media. At least three people lost their lives, while almost 60 policemen were injured in the incident. Police arrested about 415 defendants in connection with the violence.

Consequences of violence in Bengaluru

Violence erupted in Pulikeshinagar on Tuesday night when mobs came out to protest Naveen P, congressional nephew MLA Srinivasamurthy, who is accused of posting a derogatory comment on social media. Three dead, 15 injured

Three people were killed and 15 injured after police opened fire to control violence during the riots. Additionally, up to 75 police officers were also injured in the incident. The deceased have been identified as Sher Siddique, a resident of Puttaswamy Garden, Wasim Pasha, a resident of SK Garden and Mohammed Yasin, a resident of SK Garden. Around 1,500 people had gathered in front of the KG Halli and DJ Halli police stations on Tuesday night. Naveen claims his account was hacked

In his statement to police, Naveen, who posted the derogatory Facebook post that appears to have instigated the violence, claimed that his account was hacked and someone uploaded the derogatory post on purpose. More than 150 people arrested

State plan to recover damages from arsonists

According to sources, the two defendants, along with 15 other people, had approached the DJ Halli police station around 8:30 pm to file a complaint against Naveen. Police said they had informed the group that they would investigate the case but the group insisted on handing them Naveen. Mujamil is said to have stood for the BBMP election on behalf of the 60th district last year and is an active member of SDPI.
