Active COVID-19 cases in Dharavi below 10; Dadar reports five new cases


Dharavi reported two new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases in the area to 3,623. Asia’s largest small-scale industry, once a COVID-19 hotspot, is now home to just eight active cases.

Up to 3,304 infected people have recovered and been discharged from various COVID care centers and hospitals in Dharavi.

Spread over 2.5 square kilometers, the area has a population of over 6.5 lakh.

On the other hand, Mahim registered five cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 4,212. With 3,822 recoveries to date, the number of active cases in the region is now 248.

In neighboring Dadar, five people contracted the virus on Tuesday, and with that, the total number rose to 4,453. Up to 4,178 people have been discharged after necessary treatment and 105 people continue to receive treatment.

Dharavi, Dadar and Mahim fall under the G-North neighborhood, one of the administrative neighborhoods of the total of 24 neighborhoods of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). With 12 new cases in the past 24 hours, the count jumped to 12,288.

Additionally, 11,304 infected ward residents have recovered and 361 are currently in treatment. The BMC has stopped sharing COVID-19 death figures from the room.
