“I spoke to US President-elect @JoeBiden on the phone to congratulate him. We reiterate our strong commitment to the Indo-American strategic partnership and discuss our shared priorities and concerns: the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, ”Prime Minister Modi said in a tweet on Tuesday.
The prime minister also wished US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, of Indian descent, on her election to the US White House and the country’s second-highest office. “I also conveyed warm congratulations to Vice President-elect @KamalaHarris. Prime Minister Modi’s call comes nearly 10 days after the two newly elected Democratic officials won in a tightly-fought presidential race with Republican President Donald Trump.
Hours earlier, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar had indicated swift action to strengthen ties with the US administration and established the old ties the country has with Biden.
