“This season seems to be about the power of women. It’s really nice to see two of them become crorepatis within a week. I’m sure it will motivate other women, ”shared Mohita Sharma, the second contestant to take home Rs 1 crore from Kaun Banega Crorepati 12. Last week, a resident of Delhi Nazia Nasim he had earned the same amount on the reality show hosted by Amitabh Bachchan.
The IPS officer for the 2017 batch is destined for Bari Brahmana, Jammu and Kashmir. Sharma is married to an IFS officer and her dream was to be at KBC. For the beloved wife, this was simply an opportunity to fulfill her husband’s long-time wish. The fierce officer also impressed the hostess with her knowledge and calm play.
In an exclusive conversation with indianexpress.com, Mohita Sharma talked about becoming a crorepati and interacting with Big B.
Excerpts from the conversation:
Tell us about the moment Amitabh Bachchan announced you as crorepati.
It was a dream come true moment for me. As I have already mentioned, more than me, it was my husband who wanted this to happen. I was a mere means to fulfill his dream. When he announced that my answer was correct, I was overjoyed and had goose bumps. I really didn’t expect something like this to happen to me. The emotions have not yet been assimilated, and I think that only after watching the episode will I accept this victory.
Can you also carpool from the fastest finger chair to the hot seat? What was going through your mind?
When we got to the set, we had several first round tests of the fastest finger. I got in first on most of them and so I was pretty confident. However, when the game started, I was third and realized that the pressure was doing more harm than good. When the first contestant was in the hot seat, I kept practicing how I could move my fingers faster. Fortunately it worked and he finally made it through in the second round.
How long have you been trying to be at KBC?
Honestly, I never thought about it. I have never registered or followed the program. My husband has been trying for the past 20 years, and this time when he signed up he asked me to do the same. That’s how it all started. And I was lucky to get a call. That is why I call myself just a means to fulfill your dreams.
(Her husband Rushal Garg joins in) I really wanted to visit the sets of the show and see how it is filmed. Even though I couldn’t clear the round, I was able to experience it all thanks to her.
Did you expect Mohita to become a crorepati?
Rushal: As he said on the show, the goal was to get to the hot seat. In addition, he distrusted the image of his uniform and wanted to perform well. He has really been studying for the past few months for KBC. Seeing that I felt like I would cross 25 or 50 lakh, but I didn’t think I would come home as crorepati. I was very tense the whole time and read mantras. He was really proud that he could pull it off.
Since you are in civil service, did your years of study help you crack KBC?
In fact, it did, since most of our concepts are clear and we are used to remembering more things than a normal person. Of course, a long time has passed and we forget or push things into our subconscious mind. This is why while I was in quarantine before the show, I really did read a lot about current affairs, and even geography, the option I had chosen to ‘change the question’. I think that helped a lot.
Big B seemed really impressed with you and has even started following you on social media. What do you think made him your fan?
I even want to ask him the same question (laughs). I am truly honored that you appreciated me so much. Since we had a question about Instagram, we started talking about it and therefore he announced on the show that he would be following me and he stuck to his words.

How has the family been reacting? Any celebration planned?
Right now it’s just my husband and I in Jammu. However, we have planned to watch the episode together, perhaps digitally to celebrate the occasion.
Do you regret not making 7 million rupees?
He wasn’t on the show for money. Like I said, first of all, it was my husband. Second, I wanted to keep my service on the platform. I wanted to make a good game, so that people respect the officials more. So I am very happy and I do not regret it.
So what is the reaction in office?
Everyone is really happy. The day the promotion fell, I received calls and messages. Even Rushal’s colleagues are excited. It is a very different feeling.
Rushal: Now he has become a mini celebrity in Jammu. Everyone has been saying the same thing that more than money, it is the way they showed their knowledge that was commendable.
Any final message for people who want to be in Kaun Banega Crorepati?
I want to tell you when you go to KBC, prepare well. That way, not only will you earn a lot, but you can also spend more time with Big B on the bench. And that is the most valuable opportunity anyone can have. Also, many times, you would get instructions from your brain. If there is something on your subconscious mind, believe in it so you don’t exhaust all of your lifelines soon.
