The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will hold a protest in front of the residence of Delhi Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday to oppose Chhath Mahaparva’s ban from his government.
Naveen Kumar, BJP Delhi Media Officer, said Dinesh Pratap Singh and Kaushal Mishra will lead the party’s supporters, who will gather near Chandgiram Akhara and march towards Kejriwal’s home.
The Delhi government has banned community celebrations of Chhath Puja in public places like riverbanks, temples and ghats amid a surge in Covid-19 cases.
The number of cases began to approach the 8000 mark per day last week.

Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta said the government should not hurt Poorvanchalis’s religious sentiments and permission should be given to organize Chhath Mahaparva with specific guidelines or alternative arrangements should be made.
“There is anger among the Poorvanchalis living in Delhi due to the ban on Chhath Mahaparva … Chhath festival is the biggest festival for Poorvanchalis and Chhath Vrati [those who fast] You may not abandon the bid under any circumstances. “
He said that municipal corporations and councilors led by BJP have cleaned up Chhath Ghats, but it is the responsibility of the Delhi government to organize electricity and water.
Jai Prakash, Mayor of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, condemned the ban on Chhath Puja and demanded that it be lifted. “We carried out sanitation activities in ghats long before the ban was announced. We can create more ghats to keep the crowd dispersed. The government should issue specific guidelines for bidding rather than prohibiting it, ”Prakash said.
Nirmal Jain, Mayor of East Delhi Municipal Corporation, said that people will certainly celebrate Chhath if not in public ghats, then in their colonies and societies, which again would lead to chaos. “The government should allow larger ghats to open for puja. The crowd can be regulated. We are all prepared, but the government should propose some guidelines. “
