Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat were trapped in the Kedarnath shrine in Uttarakhand for more than eight hours on Monday, following heavy snowfall in the area.
Due to bad weather conditions, the two have rescheduled their program to visit the Badrinath shrine on Tuesday.
Adityanath and Rawat had arrived at the Kedarnath shrine in the Rudraprayag district on Sunday and jointly inspected the redevelopment works that were underway in the area. They had both stayed there to attend the shrine’s closing ceremony on Monday morning. After that, they both had to arrive in Badrinath before 10 am to lay the foundation stone for a UP Tourism Department guest house, after which they had to leave for Dehradun. It is proposed that the guest house stands on 4,010 square meters at a cost of Rs 11 crore.
But the rain with snowfall since the early morning forced them, like other pilgrims, to stay in Kedarnath since the helicopters could not take off. Weather conditions improved slightly around 4:30 pm, when both CMs left for the Gauchar valley in the Chamoli district. The Badrinath Shrine is located in the Chamoli district, but it is about 100 km from Gauchar.

Confirming that both CMs had been stuck in Kedarnath due to snowfall, Uttarakhand CM media coordinator Darshan Singh Rawat told The Indian Express that they will both be staying at Gauchar tonight and going to Badrinath on Tuesday morning.
Kedarnath and Badrinath are key pilgrimage centers of the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand. The portals of the Kedarnath shrine were closed on Monday morning. This year, 1.35 lakh pilgrims visited the shrine.
The portals of the Gangotri shrine were closed on Sunday and the Yamunotri shrine was closed for pilgrims on Monday. Badrinath portals will be closed on November 19.
