New Delhi:
Nitish Kumar was sworn in as Chief Minister of Bihar for the fourth consecutive term today. Along with him fourteen other ministers will be sworn in. Its new MPs, Tarkishore Prasad and Renu Devi of the BJP, will be among those taking the oath today at the event attended by Interior Minister Amit Shah.
Nitish Kumar, after meeting with Governor Phagu Chauhan to demand the formation of the NDA government in Bihar, announced on Sunday that the swearing-in, as well as the swearing-in ceremony of the new cabinet, will take place around 4:30 p.m. hours today.
Leaders of the NDA legislative party, which had secured a small victory in the recently concluded elections in Bihar, met on Sunday to deliberate on selecting a leader to lead the party. He had appointed Nitish Kumar as the leader of the NDA legislative party, thus paving the way for his return as prime minister for the fourth consecutive term.
BJP’s Tarkishore Prasad, Bihar’s Katihar MLA, will replace Sushil Modi as his alternate.
The BJP, from the beginning of the electoral campaign, had maintained that Nitish Kumar would be the main ministerial candidate of the NDA government in the state.
The NDA won the state elections last week with a very small majority and won 125 of the 243 seats in the Bihar assembly, three more than half. The NDA campaign drew heavily on the speeches of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited the state at least four times during the month-long election campaign and was seen sharing the stage with Nitish Kumar.
