The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced various forms of Aadhaar from time to time for the convenience of residents. Aadhaar letter, eAadhaar, mAadhaar, Aadhaar PVC, all forms of Aadhaar issued by UIDAI are equally valid. However, the recently released PVC Aadhaar is more durable and comfortable to wear, UIDAI says in a tweet.
Here’s the tweet:
Here are the different forms of Aadhaar:
Letter from Aadhaar: Letter laminated on paper with secure QR code with issue date and date of printing. Aadhaar’s letter is sent to the resident free of charge by regular mail in case of new enrollment or mandatory biometric update. If Aadhaar’s letter is lost or destroyed, the resident can request a reprint online at a cost of ₹50 from the official UIDAI website. The reprinted Aadhaar letter is delivered to the resident by express mail.
eAadhaar: eAadhaar is Aadhaar’s electronic form, digitally signed by UIDAI, which has a QR code for offline verification with issue date and download date. The resident can easily download eAadhaar or masked eAadhaar from the official UIDAI website using the registered mobile number. The masked eAadhaar shows only the last 4 digits of the Aadhaar number. eAadhaar is automatically generated with every Aadhaar enrollment or update and can be downloaded free of charge.
maadhaar: mAadhaar is a digital form of Aadhaar that can be installed on a mobile device. The mAadhaar app is available on the Google Play Store / iOS for download on the resident’s mobile device. Has QR code for offline verification. Like eAadhaar, mAadhaar is also automatically generated with every Aadhaar sign-up or update and can be downloaded for free.
Aadhaar PVC Card: The Aadhaar PVC Card is the latest form of Aadhaar introduced by UIDAI. In addition to being easy to carry and durable, the PVC-based Aadhaar card has a secure, digitally signed QR code with photo and demographic details with multiple security features. It can be ordered online through the uidai website using the Aadhaar number, virtual ID or enrollment ID and paying a nominal fee of ₹50. The Aadhaar PVC card is shipped to the resident’s address by express mail.
