New Delhi:
Delhi recorded 3,235 new COVID-19 cases and 95 deaths due to coronavirus disease in the past 24 hours, state government data shows.
On Diwali, infections in the national capital dropped to nearly half from last week’s average of 7,000 daily cases, as only 21,098 tests were performed, a third of the 60,000 tests carried out per day in Delhi since its second. wave in september.
Although the drop in testing was attributed to staff shortages due to the festival, it also sparked speculation about what the actual number of new cases would have been when the positivity rate rose to 15.33 percent.
The daily coronavirus figures, which are usually released around 10 p.m. every day, were shared just before an urgent meeting with Interior Minister Amit Shah today as the spike in COVID-19 continues unabated in the national capital. Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is likely to attend this meeting.
Sources said Shah is concerned about the steady rise in Covid cases in Delhi, which is experiencing a third wave of infections, bringing the availability of ventilated ICU beds to a record low.
In view of the increase in the number of Covid patients with severe symptoms, the High Court had recently allowed the Delhi government to reserve 80% of the beds in the Intensive Care Units of 33 private hospitals for coronavirus cases.
