Previously, the BJP appointed Tarkishore Prasad as its leader in the state assembly and Renu Devi as its deputy.
“I have been given this responsibility and I will carry out the duty to the best of my ability,” Prasad was quoted as saying by the ANI news agency after being elected leader of the BJP legislative party in Bihar.
When asked if there will be two BJP deputy ministers in Bihar, he said: “The party is deliberating on this. We will follow the party’s instructions. I cannot comment on it for now.”
Sushil Modi has been Bihar’s chief deputy minister since 2005, barring a 20-month hiatus when Nitish Kumar formed a government in alliance with the RJD in 2015, and he is known to share an excellent relationship with the prime minister.
Earlier, when reports of Sushil Kumar Modi’s departure as No. 2 in the Nitish government circulated, the BJP leader tweeted that no one can remove a party worker’s job.
“The BJP and the Sangh Parivar have given me so much in the 40 years of my political life and perhaps no other person would have been given so much. I am willing to accept any responsibility that comes my way in the future. No one can assume to remove a worker’s post, “Sushil Modi said on Twitter.
The NDA in Bihar today unanimously elected Nitish Kumar as its leader in the state legislature, paving the way for his return as prime minister. Kumar will be sworn in on Monday night.
