The Hindu Mahasabha observed the 71st anniversary of the death of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin, Nathuram Godse, and co-conspirator Narayan Apte, in Gwalior on Sunday.
Godse and Apte were hanged in Ambala jail on November 15, 1949 after being convicted of killing the Mahatma. The Hindu Mahasabha observes his death anniversary as the “day of sacrifice.”
Mahasabha said that if Godse’s bust, confiscated three years ago from his office by the Gwalior authorities, is not returned, he will install a new one.
Its National Vice President, Dr. Jaiveer Bhardwaj, said: “Our members performed.”aarti“and paid tribute to Godse and Apte in Daulatganj.”
“If Godse’s bust is not returned to us in May, we will install a new one,” he said.
He affirmed that it was not a crime to install a bust in a private building and the Constitution guarantees its “bid“(Adoration).
District authorities confiscated Godse’s bust in November 2017, thus thwarting the right-wing group’s attempt to turn his office into their “temple.”
