Legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee’s condition is “very critical and grim” and the latest efforts to revive him are being made by teams of doctors treating him at a private city hospital on Saturday.

Dada Saheb Phalke’s awardee is on life support and unresponsive, said one of the doctors who treated him. “Despite all our efforts, his physiological system is unresponsive. (Chatterjee’s condition) is worse than before. He has received all kinds of support and is fighting for his life, ”he said.

The COVID encephalopathy had settled in his nervous system and he “undid all efforts,” he said.

“We tested steroids, immunoglobulin, cardiology, antiviral therapy, immunology, everything,” said the doctor and added a great team of specialists from the fields of neurology, nephrology, cardiology, critical care medicine, the identification specialists had made a great effort . to revive it in the last 40 days.

“We are sorry to tell you that you are not responding. We are making our last efforts. Even his family has accepted him … He is almost at a point of no return, ”said the doctor.

The actor’s neurological condition had worsened on Friday. An EEG had shown that there is very little activity in the brain, the doctor said.

His requirement for oxygenation had increased and his kidney function had deteriorated.

The 85-year-old actor had undergone his first plasmapheresis on Thursday and a tracheostomy on Wednesday.

The legendary actor, who debuted in Satyajit Ray’s masterpiece Apur Sansar and acted in 14 of the master’s films, has been in hospital treatment since October 6 after testing positive for COVID-19.

He later tested negative for the infection, but the COVID encephalopathy had established and other complications emerged.
