The BJP today made big changes to its lineup of states in charge, seeming to focus on states where elections are due to take place in the next year or so.
The head of BJP’s information technology cell, Amit Malviya, will now help Kailash Vijayvargiya to manage West Bengal affairs. The BJP is seeking to wrest the status of Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress in elections to be held early next year.
Bhupendra Yadav has taken over Bihar, where the NDA just won the elections, and will also take care of Gujarat.
Murlidhar Rao, known for being close to Interior Minister Amit Shah, is the new head of Madhya Pradesh.
Ram Madhav, who was in charge of Manipur and Jammu and Kashmir, is now no longer in charge of any state. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra has taken over Manipur.
Anil Jain and Saroj Pandey from “Team Amit Shah” are not in charge of any state.
Baijayant Jay Panda has taken over Assam, where elections will be held next year.
The appointments came more than a month after BJP chief JP Nadda announced a new team that will handle the party’s national affairs.
Satya Kumar, Sunil Ojha and Sanjeev Chaurasia will assist Radha Mohan Singh, Head of Uttar Pradesh. Singh is also in charge of Rajasthan.
BJP Secretary General CT Ravi will be in charge of Maharashtra, Goa and Tamil Nadu. Tarun Chugh, who was previously co-head of Delhi, will now handle the party’s work in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Telangana.
The newly appointed General Secretary D Purandeshwari will be in charge of the party’s work in Odisha and will also be in charge of Chhattisgarh.
BJP General Secretary Dushyant Gautam took over Punjab, Chandigarh and Uttarakhand, and Dilip Sakia of Jharkhand and Arunachal Pradesh, according to the statement.
Union Minister V Muralidharan is in charge of Andhra Pradesh along with Sunil Deodhar as co-manager.
