Two days before the NDA officially elects Nitish Kumar as its leader in Bihar, Kumar submitted his resignation to Governor Phagu Chauhan on Friday, starting the process of forming the new government. The term of the current Bihar legislative assembly is scheduled to end on November 29. On Sunday, the NDA allies will meet and, after consensus on the post of chief minister, will call for the formation of the government.
On Friday, in an informal meeting, the four NDA constituents in Bihar – JD (U), BJP, HM and Vikassheel Insaan Party – decided that a joint meeting of the NDA legislative party will take place on Sunday in which Nitish Kumar will be chosen as the leader.
These are procedures that must be completed before the formation of the new government.
Despite winning 74 seats, 31 more than the JD (U), the BJP’s top leadership will keep Nitish Kumar in command. He was declared the main ministerial face of the alliance before the elections.
It is speculated that the BJP could lobby for an EBC or a Dalit as deputy CM. However, it is unclear whether Sushil Kumar Modi will be replaced or there will be another CM attached.
