A court of sessions has postponed to 23 November the hearing on the pre-arrest bail statement of Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami and his wife in a case registered against them by the Mumbai police for allegedly assaulting a policewoman.

His lawyer Shyam Kalyankar said the guilty plea could not be heard on Thursday because the judge did not preside.

“The declaration of early bail for Goswami and his wife was simply postponed until November 23,” he said.

“We are not seeking any provisional protection against arrest today, as we are awaiting the detailed order from the Supreme Court (passed Wednesday granting Goswami bail on another matter),” Kalyankar said.

The higher court on Wednesday granted Goswami provisional bail in a case of alleged complicity in the suicide of interior designer Anvay Naik in 2018.

Goswami, who was arrested on November 4, was released from Taloja Prison in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday night.

Last week, an FIR was recorded against Arnab Goswami, his wife Samyabrata Ray Goswami and their son at the NM Joshi Marg Police Station in central Mumbai for allegedly assaulting a female police officer when a police team went to their home to arrest him on November 4.

Currently, Arnab Goswami and his wife have filed an advance bond in the assault case.

They have been registered under sections 353 of the Indian Penal Code (assault to dissuade a public servant from doing his duty), 504 (intentional insult to cause a breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and under the Act of Damages to Public Property.
