NEW DELHI: The BJP must decide whether or not the Lok Janshakti Party should remain in the NDA, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said on Thursday after the Chirag Paswan-led party damaged Janata Dal United’s prospects in many seats in the recently concluded elections. .
Chirag Paswan had defended on Wednesday his decision to run candidates against JD (U) in large numbers in the Bihar assembly polls, greatly hurting his prospects, saying he wanted Nitish Kumar’s party to “weaken” and he was successful in the effort.
Bihar’s chief minister said the decision on the oath date will be made after an informal meeting with NDA partners tomorrow.
“It is not yet decided when the swearing-in ceremony will take place, either after Diwali or Chhath. We are analyzing the results of this election. Members of the four parties will meet tomorrow,” he said.
Responding to a question about “who will be the CM,” Nitish said, “I have not made any claims, the decision will be made by NDA. Top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have strongly endorsed Kumar as the prime minister.
In the 2020 Bihar elections, out of 243 seats, 125 were in favor of the ruling coalition led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and 110 to rival the Grand Alliance.
The RJD emerged as the largest party in the House with 75 seats, while the LJP won just one seat.
