Kamala Harris made history on November 7 by being elected as the first woman, the first woman of color and the first vice president of the United States of South America from Asia.
The vice president-elect took the stage shortly after her emphatic victory to thank voters, party workers, election officials and her entire family. In her first public speech after her ticket headed by Joe Biden won the White House, Kamala said, “Every girl who looks at tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities.”
His mother, Shyamala Gopalan Harris, has been a central theme in many of his speeches. Here too, she came in for a special mention. “When you came here from India at the age of 19, you may not have imagined this moment. But she believed deeply in an America where a moment like this is possible. So I’m thinking about her, ”he said.
Since the results of the US presidential election were declared, social media has been full of congratulatory messages for Harris and Joe Biden. Harris received a message of thanks even from her ancestral village Thulasendrapuram, where the women made ‘rangoli’ to congratulate her on the great victory.
However, the most poignant and emotional message came from none other than her husband Doug Emhoff, who shared a very short post on Instagram along with a charming photo.
Emhoff shared a photo of him hugging Harris in a picturesque setting. The post was titled: “Very Proud of You. Usus.”
The image has been liked by almost 5 billion Instagram users.
One user commented: “What an amazing pair! Sending love from Singapore “
“I’m so proud of you second gentleman !!!!!!” wrote another.
