India moves from fiscal terrorism to fiscal transparency, says PM Modi


Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated an Income Tax Appeal Court (ITAT) residential and office complex in Cuttack, Odisha, via video conference on Wednesday. During the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the recently introduced tax reforms and said: “The public should not feel uncomfortable when taxes are collected.”

“The taxpayer now does not have to wait years for the tax refund,” Prime Minister Modi said. “India is moving from fiscal terrorism to fiscal transparency,” Prime Minister Modi said, citing faceless appeals, dispute resolution mechanism.

Underlining the tax reforms, Prime Minister Modi said that “no income tax of up to Rs 5 lakh is helping low-income people”, adding that “corporate tax has also seen a historic reduction.”

“India among select nations that recognize the rights and responsibilities of taxpayers; step towards building trust in the tax system, ”he also said during the inauguration.

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Chief Minister Odisha Naveen Patnaik also attended the event.

ITAT’s newly built residential and office complex, Cuttack, is spread over 1.60 acres of land allocated by the Odisha government at no cost in 2015.

The total built area of ​​the office complex is 1,938 square meters, on three floors including, among other things, the spacious courtroom, the ultra-modern records room, the well-equipped chambers for bank members, the library and the Well equipped modern conference room, with enough space for litigants, bar room for lawyers, public accountants, etc.

ITAT Cuttack has been operating in leased premises since 1970 for almost 50 years and has jurisdiction for appeals arising from the state of Odisha.
