In an exciting election in Bihar, where the count continued late into the night and the margins were tight, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United won a constituency by just 12 votes. The outcome of Hilsa’s seat has been contested by the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) of Tejashwi Yadav.
According to the results published on the Election Commission website Tuesday night, JDU’s Krishnamurari Sharan, aka Prem Mukhiya, got 61,848 votes, while RJD’s Atri Muni or Shakti Singh Yadav got 61,836 votes.
“Declared results,” said Hilsa’s column. The margin was declared as “12”.
When the poll panel website showed that votes for Hilsa were still being counted, the RJD alleged an attempt to falsely declare the seat as a JDU victory. The party previously said that its candidate had been declared the winner by more than 500 votes.
“The returning officer had declared RJD candidate Shakti Singh from the Hilsa Assembly constituency the winner by 547 votes. She was told to wait to issue the certificate of victory. But then the returning officer receives a call. from the prime minister’s residence and the officer suddenly says the RJD candidate has lost by 13 votes due to the cancellation of the postal ballots, “the RJD stated in a tweet.
The JDU candidate obtained 232 votes by mail and the RJD 233, according to the Electoral Commission.
The opposition alliance claimed that many of its candidates did not receive the winning certificates due to pressure from Prime Minister Nitish Kumar and his government. The RJD claimed that its alliance had “won” 119 seats instead of 110.
“We are not under any pressure,” the Election Commission said at an evening news conference.
The RJD also published a list of 119 seats that it claims had been won by candidates from the opposition alliance.
