Nitish Kumar, BJP win elections for Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav’s largest RJD party

Bihar 2020 Election Results Live Updates: Nitish Kumar and BJP Win Bihar Election

BJP had won the victory in the Bihar assembly polls for the NDA even as the 50-seat count was underway

After more than 14 hours of counting, many twists and cheating accusations, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was announced as the winner of the Bihar Assembly elections in the (very) early morning hours of Wednesday. Fueled by several demonstrations from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the NDA reached the majority mark of 122 at 2.57 AM.

According to data on the Election Commission website, the BJP won 72 seats to emerge as the lead member in its alliance with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JDU, which achieved just 42.

The opposition, led by RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, fought hard but ultimately fell short. However, with 75 seats, the RJD is the largest party. Congress, considered by many to be the reason for the opposition’s failure to go all the way, contested 70 seats but won only 19. Chirag Paswan’s LJP, which was the source of much frustration for Nitish Kumar, won just one seat.

Bihar Election Results Live: Nitish Kumar Goes Into Bihar Tough Election But With Depleted JD (U)
It was a tough choice in the assembly for Bihar’s chief minister, Nitish Kumar, as he faced multiple challenges in his bid for the fourth consecutive term in office. The challenge posed by Mahagathbandhan led by Rashtriya Janata Dal gained momentum as the campaign progressed and the leader of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), Chirag Paswan, also attacked it.

Janata Dal-United’s performance has dropped compared to its performance in the 2015 elections and the ruling party was unable to obtain even half of the seats it contested in these elections. But the seats it won were enough to cushion the BJP’s strong performance to push the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) beyond the 243-member House majority mark.

Nitish Kumar’s party was only able to win 43 seats out of 115 seats it contested, while the BJP, which submitted 110 candidates, won in 74 constituencies.

The RJD emerged as the largest party in the assembly with 75 seats. Its 23.03% vote percentage was also the highest of any party in the elections.

The Great Alliance opposition did not reach the magic mark. The total number of seats won by the five voters was 110.
