Fire department officers had to work all day to put out the fire at Renuka Chemical Godown.
A massive fire broke out in a chemical depot in Bangalore on Tuesday. At around 11:30 am, residents of New Guddadahalli, near the Deepanjali Nagar subway station, called the southern fire station to report a fire in what they claimed was a “chemical factory” in their locality.
When the fire broke out at Renuka Chemical Godown, employees were evacuated. Employees of Bhagyalaxmi Switch Gears, an electrical parts manufacturing factory, located next to the descent, were also evacuated from the building. Fire and Emergency Services personnel dispatched 15 fire trucks to contain the fire. At 11:45 am, fire trucks had arrived at the scene and began to put out the flames. “As we know, there have been no casualties. We have been making efforts to put out the flames since the last four hours,” said Regional Fire Officer Ramesh, who was part of the fire suppression efforts.
Officials in the southern fire station control room said the factory was located in close proximity to several residential buildings. His main task was to ensure that the fire did not spread to other buildings. “We had to make sure that the fire didn’t spread to the nearby buildings as the setbacks are very narrow. The building has completely caught fire. Nothing remains. Firefighting efforts are still continuing. We will be able to determine the cause of the fire only after this is complete, ”added RFO Ramesh.
Fire department officials worked around the clock to put out the flames. Even at 6pm, the fire still hadn’t completely burned out. “We can estimate the damage only when the fire is completely extinguished. So far, we have not reported any injuries or casualties,” Ramesh added.
