IPL 2020: ‘You can’t change the whole team every year’, former RCB bowling coach Ashish Nehra highlights mistake made by franchise – cricket

Royal Challengers Bangalore saw its 2020 Indian Premier League campaign come to an abrupt end after losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator on Friday. As the Virat Kohli-led franchise withdraws from competition, questions arise about the mistakes RCB made this year, leading to them losing six games in a row.

Ashish Nehra, a former RCB bowling coach in India and a former Star Sports coach, said the franchise continues to rely too heavily on Kohli and AB de Villiers, and they end up making too many changes to the auctions every year.

“RCB depends too much on Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. The whole team and roster revolves around them, which is not the correct thinking as it is an 11-player game, ”said Nehra.

“You should have at least 5 players, you can look at any other franchise, Kings XI Punjab also has similar problems where they don’t have these two and they make even more changes. You need to have 4-5 players with you.

“It will be interesting to see if Aaron Finch will be there with the team next year. These difficulties have been there. Last year they had Hetmyer, Marcus Stoinis, ”he added.

“You should let the same players accompany you for 2-3 years, in addition to those two. These two players and Chahal are always there at RCB. Apart from them, you won’t see a fourth name, ”Nehra said.

“Washington Sundar didn’t play last year because the team used to play a lot of games in Bangalore and Moeen Ali was playing. But now that he’s got the big ground, he’s also played well. Mohammed Siraj took a lot of hits in Bangalore last year. He got the big fields and he also played well.

“Otherwise, where will you get the players from? You cannot change the entire squad in each auction, apart from two or three, you will change the rest of the 16 to 18 players. They have to stay with the same players for at least three years because making a team is a process in which they are very rushed, ”Nehra concluded.
