With a very narrow margin, exit polls predict Grand Alliance victory, Tejashwi is likely CM

As several exit polls on Saturday predicted a clear victory for the opposition Grand Alliance or Mahagathbandhan, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar reacted skeptically. NDA stated that these polls have often failed to account for large numbers of “silent voters.”

The leaders of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress, who are at the forefront of the Grand Alliance, reacted with predictable glee at the predictions of the exit polls. Exit polls stated that the anti-incumbent wave was strong during the state elections. As none of the polls gave the Lok Janshakti Party significant figures, Chirag Paswan insisted that his rebellion against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, JD (U) was justified.

The RJD that, according to exit polls, would return to leadership under Tejashwi Yadav looked jubilant. “Magnificent indeed,” was a concise two-line tweet from Manoj Jha, the party’s national spokesman.

The Times Now-C Voter gave Kumar’s NDA 116 out of Bihar’s 243 seats and a slight lead to the opposition Grand Alliance with 120. Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party is expected to win just one seat. Meanwhile, Republic’s TV-Jan Ki Baat awarded 118-138 seats to the RJD-Congress-Left coalition and 91-117 seats to the ruling NDA. The channel projected that RJD would be the largest party. The ABP-CVoter poll predicted between 104 and 128 seats for Kumar and his allies, 108-131 for the Mahagathbandhan and between four and eight seats for other parties.

Any party or coalition needs 122 for a majority in the 243-seat Bihar Assembly.

Bihar has voted for the change: Congress

With the exit polls for Bihar, the chief congressional spokesperson, Randeep Surjewala, said that the exit polls are interesting as they provide employment for some people using small samples, but people speak at the end. “We are confident that Bihar has voted for change and Bihar will vote for change,” he said.
