A Delhi judge relied on a verse composed by himself while explaining why he was granting bail in a riot case in northeast Delhi.
Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat, announcing his decision to grant the defendant bail, wrote: “Take your freedom out of the cage you are in; / Until the trial is over, the state will be controlled; / The State proclaims; have the cake and eat it too; / The Court is calling; / Before eating the cake, bake it too. “
ASJ Rawat was deciding the application of bail for the defendant, a certain Babu, who has a criminal record and was arrested for a gunshot wound inflicted on this Rahul.
The incident took place on February 25 of this year. Babu was arrested on April 8, after a Satish bailiff identified him at a traffic stop in Maujpur.

The police informed the court that Rahul could not be traced, as he had provided a false address on his medico-legal certificate.
Claiming that it was yet another case of a “hideous riot”, the judge wrote: “Babu begging for bail; / Been opposing tooth and nail. / Summers past, winters have arrived; / But you did, and Rahul cried.
“I’m not the one, I’m not the one; / The charge is too serious, don’t pretend. / Who did I attack, where is he? / Oh! We know that, in the trial we will see ”.
When statements were made that Rahul was untraceable and Babu wanted parity with co-defendant Imran, who was also released on bail in the same case, ASJ Rawat wrote:
“You say that I have said and I deny it from the first blush; / Rahul may still be gone Satish said / Didn’t we say? do not rush; / Let me go, let me go, even Imran is out on bail. / Even then, even then; it would not be a soft candle. “

In giving his verdict, ASJ Rawat wrote: “Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop. / I’ve listened, listened a lot. / The mind is clear, with high claims; / It’s my time to take a call. / Babu has a sordid past; / The proof is meager, which may not last.
“His omnipotence cannot be assumed; / The danger to the missing Rahul, is legally furious. “
Babu was granted bail by providing a personal bond of Rs 10,000 with a local guarantee of the same amount. He has been ordered not to leave Delhi without the permission of the court, nor to engage in any criminal activity. You will not tamper with evidence or contact any witnesses as a condition of your bond.
