Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulates Joe Biden on the US electoral victory.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated US President-elect Joe Biden on Sunday, hours after it became clear that the former vice president had won Pennsylvania to take over the presidency.

“Congratulations @JoeBiden on your spectacular win! As Vice President, his contribution to strengthening Indo-US relations was critical and invaluable. I look forward to working closely together once again to take India-US relations to greater heights, “Modi said in a Twitter post.

“Heartfelt congratulations @KamalaHarris! His success is groundbreaking and a source of immense pride not only for his Chittis, but also for all American Indians. I am confident that the vibrant ties between India and the United States will be further strengthened with your support and leadership, “he added in a second post.

Biden, as vice president of the Barack Obama administration, visited India in July 2013 and during that trip set an ambitious goal of $ 500 billion for bilateral trade.

Ties between India and the US have steadily warmed since 2000 with five US presidential visits to 2020 that included both Democratic and Republican presidents.

Last week, the spokesman for the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Anurag Srivastava, said that “successive presidents and administrations have further raised the level of this relationship.”

“The relations between India and the United States rest on solid foundations and the relations encompass cooperation in all areas, from strategic to defense, investment, trade and ties between people,” he added.
