Shiv Sena invokes Trump to mock BJP for Arnab Goswami’s arrest

BJP had alleged that the arrest of Mr. Goswami by the Raigad police in the 2018 case was politically motivated.

After criticizing the BJP, the ruler Shiv Sena on Saturday compared the uproar over the arrest of television journalist Arnab Goswami to Donald Trump’s reaction to the outcome of the US presidential election.

An editorial in the Seine spokesman ‘Saamana‘said that the reaction of Mr Trump, who is on the verge of defeat, amounts to belittling the position he held.

“Just as Trump’s actions, which included spreading fake news and demanding that the vote counting stop and moving the court, go against the law and the prestige of the United States, the leaders of the BJP in Maharashtra are protesting against the arrest of an alleged defendant in a case of complicity with suicide. ”Said Sena without naming Goswami, editor-in-chief of Republic TV.

The BJP had alleged that the arrest of Mr. Goswami by the Raigad police on Wednesday in the 2018 case was politically motivated and amounted to gagging the freedom of the press.

“When Prime Minister Narendra Modi was Gujarat’s chief minister, BJP leaders, including (current Union Minister of the Interior) Amit Shah, were tried in several cases of riots in Gujarat (2002). They were acquitted in accordance with the law, but the BJP did not say then that the actions (cases) were politically motivated or part of a vendetta, ”the editorial said.

The Sena further alleged that the BJP was smearing the image of family members of Anvay Naik, the interior designer who had committed suicide in 2018 allegedly due to non-payment of fees by Republic TV.

Referring to posters showing Maharashtra Prime Minister Uddhhav Thackeray with Indira Gandhi, who imposed the state of emergency in 1975, the Sena said the comparison with the late prime minister was a matter of pride.

“The BJP has gone crazy by putting up posters of Uddhav Thackeray and Indira Gandhi remembering the people of Emergency, in Delhi. This is not only childish, but also ignorance. The comparison with Indira Gandhi is a source of pride. The Iron Lady had avenged the partition of our country by breaking up Pakistan in 1971, ”the editorial said.

Congress is one of the components of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government (MVA) led by the Seine in Maharashtra, in addition to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

The Sena also criticized the BJP for announcing the wearing of black badges by its leaders until Mr. Goswami is released.

“Fortunately, they have not resorted to prison bharo and fasting as part of the protests,” the editorial said.
