Republic Television Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, who was arrested along with two other people in a case of incitement to suicide in 2018, charged Mumbai police with torture in his bail statement.

The petition has been filed by Goswami’s attorney, Harish Salve, after Goswami’s arrest on Wednesday. He is being heard by a court of judges SS Shinde and MS Karnik in the Bombay High Court.

According to Bar and Bench, a website that covers legal news, Arnab Goswami claimed in his petition that during the course of the arrest a high-ranking police officer hit him with a heavy boot, received a half-foot deep wound on his hand. left and suffered a severe spinal cord injury.

Goswami also alleged that the police officers “forced him to drink a liquid” while they surrounded him. He also said that after drinking the liquid he “choked”.

The high court heard Goswami’s petition on Saturday requesting provisional bail and challenging his arrest in the 2018 suicide incitement case of interior designer Anvay Naik.

Police said they found a suicide note in which Naik claimed that Goswami had not paid his fees. The editor-in-chief of Republic TV was arrested by the Alibaug police and placed in pre-trial detention until November 18 by a magistrate court.
