Delhi Capitals lost the top seed of the 2020 Indian Premier League on Thursday night in Dubai. The Mumbai Indians beat them by a whopping 57-race margin to enter the final. DC showed a completely disappointing performance with both the bat and the ball. After letting MI post 200/5 in the first innings, the side led by Shreyas Iyer was limited to 143/8. Head coach Ricky Ponting was not satisfied with the approach of the DC bowlers in death overs. In post-match press, the former Australian captain lamented that they were miles behind in the death overs, leaking 78 runs in the final overs.
“Our execution in the last four or five overs was miles away from where we needed to. We continually feed Hardik Pandya where he wants the ball, even Ishan Kishan kept walking away from us and he has played well in every game we have played against MI so far this season.
“We felt that we had planned it very well. Our meetings have been as clear and concise as they have been throughout the tournament, but under pressure, our execution today was miles away, ”Ponting said in post-match press.

Another factor that took Ponting by surprise was R Ashwin’s elimination from the attack after he fired Rohit Sharma in his first over. When asked about the same at the press conference, the head coach replied that he had not discussed it with captain Shreyas Iyer.
“Hindsight is always good, I’m sure the captain must have all the right intentions to do it. I’m not sure why exactly he could have come out of the attack. I think Rabada threw the third or fourth. I haven’t asked the captain the question yet, ”Ponting said.

The Mumbai Indians played an exceptional game of cricket and beat Delhi Capitals. Since DC has another chance to make the final, Ponting suggested they need to find ways to improve. “
“We have a couple of days before our next challenge and we will wait and see who our opponents will be tomorrow. As a group we have to dig deep and try to find ways to improve in a short period of time, ”added the former Australian captain.
