'Lie after lie after lie': television networks break with Trump's live speech

NBC and ABC News also canceled their live coverage of Trump.

Washington, United States:

Live coverage of Donald Trump’s first public appearance since Election Night was interrupted by several U.S. television networks Thursday after concluding that the president was spreading disinformation.

Trump unleashed a barrage of unsubstantiated and inflammatory claims in a 17-minute speech, insisting that Democrats were using “illegal votes” to “steal our elections.”

The president spoke when the late counting of votes in battle states showed Democrat Joe Biden steadily closing in on victory.

“Okay, here we are again in the unusual position of not only interrupting the president of the United States, but also correcting the president of the United States,” said MSNBC host Brian Williams, as the network quickly ended its coverage on alive.

NBC and ABC News also canceled their live coverage of Trump.

“What a sad night for the United States of America to hear its president say that, falsely accuse people of trying to steal the election,” said CNN’s Jake Tapper.

He described it as “lie after lie after lie about the theft of the elections”, with no evidence, “just smears.”
