Actor Poonam Pandey was arrested by Goa police on Thursday for allegedly trespassing on government property and filming obscene video in the coastal state.
Two police officers were also suspended after several citizens of the city of Canacona in the South Goa district alleged misuse of government machinery for the shooting.
Pandey, who was staying at a five-star hotel in Sinquerim in north Goa, was detained by a Calangute police team in the afternoon and later turned over to Canacona police, an official said.
The actor was “detained for questioning,” Police Superintendent (South) Pankaj Kumar Singh told PTI.
A case was filed against Pandey on Wednesday for obscenity during filming at the Chapoli dam in the city of Canacona following a complaint from the state department of water resources, which manages the dam.
On Thursday, several residents of Canacona called for the closure of the town and demanded action against the police officers who allegedly provided protection to the actor and members of the crew for the filming.
The SP later said that Police Inspector Tukaram Chavan and a police officer were suspended, pending an investigation by the state Department of the Interior.
When asked why the two police officers were suspended, he said details would be revealed only after the investigation.
The state water resources department filed a police complaint Tuesday accusing “unknown persons” of trespassing on its property, shooting and circulating an obscene video.
Canacona police on Wednesday registered a case against Pandey for obscene gestures, trespassing on government property and for shooting and distributing indecent video, an official previously said.
Former Goa minister and BJP leader Ramesh Tawadkar said police provided protection for the shooting.
He said the locals withdrew their request for closure in Canacona after the chief minister, Pramod Sawant, assured that the policemen involved would be suspended.
Subsequently, the police ordered the suspension of an inspector and a police officer, he said.
