New Delhi:
India is determined to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity from “unilateralism and aggression,” Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said today as the clash with China in eastern Ladakh enters the seventh month.
The Defense Minister also said that India attaches importance to the peaceful resolution of differences through dialogue and is committed to respecting the various agreements signed for the maintenance of peace along the borders.
“However, India is determined to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity against unilateralism and aggression,” he said, in a speech at a webinar organized by the National Defense College.
Rajnath Singh stressed that India is a peace-loving country and believes that differences should not turn into disputes.
The confrontation between India and China began on May 6 and has significantly strained their ties. Both sides held a series of diplomatic and military talks to resolve the dispute. However, no progress has been made to end the confrontation.
The eighth round of corps commander-level talks between India and China is likely to take place tomorrow.
In his speech, the Defense Minister also spoke about the efforts being made to enhance India’s military prowess as well as to boost national defense production.
“Peace can only be guaranteed through the ability to deter war; we have tried to build deterrence through capacity building and indigenization,” Rajnath Singh said.
On Pakistan, the defense minister said that it remains “inflexible” in using terrorism as a state policy.
