Former Indian hitter and hitting coach Sanjay Bangar feels that if there is one team that can beat the Mumbai Indians in shape, it is the Delhi Capitals. Bangar put all his efforts into Shreyas Iyer’s team and said that while it may be easy not to give DC many chances against MI given that their campaign got off the track late in the tournament, one should not forget the fact that that for most of the IPL 2020, it was the Capitals who led the points table.

“Let me tell you one thing, when you go to the playoffs, no matter what happened in the past, it’s the day the team plays cricket best,” Bangar said on Star Sports’ Game Plan program.

“Delhi Capitals, I agree that they may not have the experience of playing a lot of playoff games, but what they have been through this season is very critical. The success at the beginning, the failures were in the second half of the tournament, and then a very good match to qualify and play in second place ”.

The Capitals were on a roll, winning seven of their first nine games, before losing the next four in a row, which somehow promised to jeopardize their campaign. But they got back on track to win against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the penultimate match of the group stage. MI, on the other hand, has been quite easily the team to beat this season, becoming the first team to qualify for the playoffs, finishing with 18 points after nine wins.

Yet for the Capitals, Shikhar Dhawan has already scored two centuries in a row this year, and the likes of Anrich Nortje and Purple Cap holder Kagiso Rabada have had an IPL to cherish. Taking all of these factors into account, Bangar warned MI not to take DC lightly in the first qualifying game on Thursday in Dubai.
“I think the kind of mix they have of good, young, experienced Indian hitters, a battery of fast bowlers overseas and Indian spinners, it’s a good mix of experience, pace, youth and then if there’s a team that can challenge Indians of Mumbai, they are the capitals of Delhi. So, watch out for the Mumbai Indians, it’s not going to be easy, ”Bangar said.
