India Opposes Transfer of Management of Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib to Non-Sikh Body | India News

NEW DELHI: India on Wednesday opposed Pakistan’s transfer of administration and maintenance of Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib from the Pakistan Sikh Gurudwara Prabhandhak Committee (PSGPC) to a non-Sikh body.
The government of Pakistan transferred the management and maintenance of Kartarpur Sahib from PSGPC, a body run by the Sikh minority community in Pakistan, to the Evacuee Trust Property Board, which is a non-Sikh body.
“This unilateral decision by Pakistan is highly reprehensible and goes against the spirit of the corridor of Kartarpur Sahib as well as the religious sentiments of the Sikh community in general, “the statement read.
The statement further added that the move has exposed the “high demands” of Pakistani leaders to preserve and protect the rights and well-being of minority religious communities.
“Pakistan is asked to reverse its arbitrary decision to deprive the Sikh minority community of its right to manage the affairs of the Holy Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib“he added.
Kartarpur Sahib is a gurdwara of Kartarpur, located in Shakargarh, Narowal district, in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It is one of the holiest sites in Sikhism, along with the Golden Temple in Amritsar and Gurdwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib.
