Anvay Naik’s family said they were “happy with the arrest” of Republic TV editor Arnab Goswami for allegedly instigating the 53-year-old interior designer’s suicide in 2018, while claiming there was a lot of pressure on them to close the case. of the police before. An Alibaug team the police picked up Goswami from his home in Lower Parel in the morning and was subsequently arrested.
“We are happy with the arrest of Arnab Goswami. There was a lot of pressure on us to close the case from the police before. Her husband emailed Arnab asking him to return the money and that it was a matter of life and death for him. He didn’t know our father, ”Naik’s daughter said.
Adnya, Naik’s daughter, claimed non-payment of fees by Republic TV he had driven his father and grandmother to suicide. “We don’t want the issue to be political. I lost two members of my family due to this problem. We want people to understand how powerful people like Arnab Goswami get away with such things. Comparing the case to the suicide of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, Naik’s wife said no arrests were made despite her husband leaving a suicide note naming Goswami and two other people.
“Arnab Goswami kept saying that the arrests should be made in the suicide case of Sushant Singh Rajput where there was no suicide note. My husband left a suicide note naming Arnab and two other people, but no arrests were made. How is this fair? she said.
The case dates back to May 2018 when interior designer Anvay Naik, along with his mother Kumud Naik, were found dead in their bungalow in Alibaug. Police had found a suicide in which Anvay said that he and his mother decided to take an extreme step because of the payments because they were not authorized by the owners of three companies: Republic TV television journalist Arnab Goswami, Feroz Shaikh from IcastX / Skimedia and Niteish Sarda from Smartworks.
The three companies owe Naik’s company, Concorde Designs Pvt Ltd, Rs 83 lakh, Rs 4 crore and Rs 55 lakh respectively, the note adds.
In May this year, Maharashtra Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh said that the state’s Criminal Investigation Department would re-investigate the case. The case was closed by the Raigad police last year. Officers outside Arnab’s residence said that the same court where Raigad police had filed a closure report has given Raigad police permission to reopen the case. CID officials said they have no case against Goswami.
In a statement, Republic TV said: “The arrest of Arnab Goswami in the related suicide case has been carried out as part of a larger retaliatory exercise against an independent journalist and an independent news organization.” The “Anvay Naik suicide case was investigated and closed by a court of law after a police shutdown report noted that no case was filed in April 2019,” the statement said.
“The mere fact that the outright physical assault on Arnab, his family and the Republic team was recorded and broadcast around the world this morning in a closed case is proof of the desperation with which the Mumbai police and the government of Maharashtra “. added.
