46,253 new cases of COVID-19 in India, 20% more than yesterday; 83.13 lakh total cases so far, 1.23,611 deaths


New COVID-19 infections increase by 20% in one day, India has 83.13 lakh

Worldwide, there have been a total of 4,73,94,468 confirmed cases of coronavirus, data shows.

With an increase of 46,253 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the total number of coronavirus cases in the country reached 83.13 lakh, data from the Ministry of Health shared this morning shows. The daily case count increased by 20 percent, approaching the national weekly average of 45,000, after falling to nearly 38,000 on Monday. Deaths related to COVID-19 also increased marginally over Monday’s figure to 514. With this, 1,23,611 have lost their lives to the highly viral disease. The average daily deaths from Covid has dropped from 1,165 recorded during the Covid peak in mid-September to around 500 last week, the Health Ministry said.

  1. Active cases in India dropped to 5.3 lakh, but the drop in numbers has slowed as the coronavirus case curve shows signs of flattening rather than a steady decline.

  2. More than 76.5 lakh people have successfully battled the disease, with 53,357 people discharged in the last 24 hours, bringing the recovery rate to 92%.

  3. According to the latest numbers, Maharashtra has the highest number of coronavirus cases with 16,92,693, of which 1.6 lakh are active and 44,248 have died.

Kerala and Delhi recorded 6,862 and 6,725 cases respectively, followed by Maharashtra (4,909). West Bengal (3,981) cases and Andhra Pradesh, which replaced Karnataka with 2,849 cases.

  5. Delhi’s 24-hour count has been the highest yet, with ICU beds in private and government-run hospitals filling up quickly. The Delhi government is now considering collecting samples from people while they are in restaurants, markets and other public places to strengthen its surveillance mechanism.

  6. Last month, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh were the top states that saw a decline in the number of COVID-19 cases, the government said.

  7. Almost 61% of all deaths in this period were recorded in Maharashtra (120), Chhattisgarh (58), West Bengal (56), Delhi (48) and Tamil Nadu (31).

  8. Lakshadweep, Mizoram and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu have the lowest number of coronavirus cases with 0, 2,893 and 3,257, respectively.

  9. India remains the second most affected country in the world with a 3.8 percent positivity rate, followed by the United States, where the case count is approaching the 1 crore mark.

  10. Globally, there have been more than 4.7 trillion confirmed cases of coronavirus, with 12 lakh deaths.
